MHT-CET Auto-Freeze Rule Explained

Auto-freeze is round-dependent. This guide helps you avoid accidental freeze-ins by ordering choices with CAP round logic.

Golden rule

Never place a low-risk fallback too high in your list. If it gets allotted early, your list is effectively frozen.

How auto-freeze works

  1. CAP checks your list from top to bottom and allots the highest possible eligible option.
  2. Auto-freeze zone is round-dependent (2025-26): Round-I top 1, Round-II top 3, Round-III top 6.
  3. If allotment lands inside the current round freeze-zone, later better options may never be reached.

Round-II (Top 3)
Round-III (Top 6)

Common mistakes

  • Keeping top 5 positions too safe for fear of missing admission.
  • Mixing dream and safe options without rank tiers.
  • Copying another student's list without your own percentile/category context.

Round-wise worked examples

  • Round-I: Safe at #1. If allotted, betterment can stop immediately.
  • Round-II: If allotment lands in top-3, lower Dream options may never open.
  • Round-III: Allotment inside top-6 zone can create practical lock-in.

Before final submit

  • Top band: ambitious but possible options (Dream/Upper Match).
  • Middle band: realistic conversion options (Match).
  • Lower band: safety net options (Safe) kept below high-value targets.
  • Re-check category, HU/OHU/AI seat types and round behavior.
